The Building and Development Department is located at City Hall, 226 E. Peace Street. The department is responsible for issuing all construction permits and related inspections as well as code enforcement related to zoning, floodplain management, and community development.

Canton's Parks and Recreation Department takes pride in serving local residents by maintaining safe and attractive facilities for all visitors. The park system includes seven (7) facilities.

  • Saab ParkSAAB PARK, located on the corner of Park Drive and Union Street on 15 acres, encompasses 3 lighted baseball/softball fields, 1 basketball court, 1 concession stands, 1 pavilion, 2 lighted tennis courts, and state-of-the-art playground equipment.
  • CANTON FITNESS COMPLEX, located on the corner of Liberty Street and Yandell Avenue. The complex encompasses 1 quarter mile oval track, exercise equipment, and a combination flag football and soccer field.
  • ROSE BUD PARK, located off Rose Bud Drive and Cauthen Street, encompasses 1 baseball field, 1 quarter mile walking trail, 3 pavilions, 1 swimming pool, 4 basketball courts, and playground equipment
  • CANTON COMMUNITY CENTER, located at 337 North Union Street, encompasses 1 auditorium, 1 kitchen, 1 meeting room, and 1 stage.
  • CANTON/MADISON COUNTY MULTIPURPOSECANTON/MADISON COUNTY MULTIPURPOSE & EQUINE CENTER, located at 501 Soldiers Colony Road encompasses 1 large multipurpose arena, which contains a banquet hall, concession stand, kitchen, break-out rooms, office space, a 140'X240" arena floor with seating for 1800 people, a barn and stalls, and a warm up area.   • CANTON SPORTS PLEX, located at 501 Soldier Colony Road. The Sports Plex contains 8 open space fields, 2 soccer fields, a walking trail, playground equipment, 3 ponds, and paved parking for up to 700 vehicles.
  • ANDERSON PARK. Is located behind Canton Elementary School on 19 acres, and includes a walking trail and playground equipment.

The Canton Police Department exists to serve the community and to provide public safety services to the community. The city's Police Department is located at 200 Park Drive between Liberty and Union Streets.

The public works department is located at 303 Soldier Colony Road. The department is responsible for maintaining the city's roadways as well as the city's garage collections. Residential collection of trash is made twice each week. The south side of Peace Street is collected on Monday and Thursday, and the north side of Peace Street on Tuesday and Friday.
